Unequal distribution of healthcare personnel
The burden of these shortages is not evenly distributed. Rural India faces a particularly daunting challenge. Healthcare professionals, especially doctors and specialists, are less likely to practice in rural areas. Limited infrastructure, fewer amenities, and limited opportunities for career advancement create a significant disincentive for them to choose rural postings compared to their urban counterparts. This disparity in staffing creates a two-tiered healthcare system, where access to quality care becomes a matter of geography, further marginalizing rural populations. |
