  • Client Description: A major Indian e-commerce player interested in foraying into online groceries business
  • Opportunity: benchmarking grocery warehousing processes to understand the supply chain, SKU in warding, inventory management and outwarding processes followed by various online and offline grocery players, as well as fulfillment center layouts.
Our Approach
  • Interviewed >50 warehouse managers & personnel, supply chain managers of leading online & offline grocery players in India
  • Interviewed >30 suppliers, mainly FMCG distributors as well as retailers/stockists

Key Insights / Outcomes

Even though players use some form of auto-replenishment system in their fulfilment warehouses, the level of automation varies vastly. Scale players have been able to automate only upto 50-60% of their replenishments, owing to local variations, supplier promotions, store feedback, and supplier MOV & MOQ requirements.

Incoming SKU shipments are subjected to 7 different kinds of quality checks in fulfilment centers - packaging, temperature, quantity per carton, expiry, grammage, variant & moisture.
